Plaza Abaroa – La Paz

The Plaza Abaroa is located in Sopocachi area between the streets 20 October, Sanchez Lima, Pedro Salazar and Belisario Salinas.

The square was renovated year 1927 by Ernest prefect. In the center of the square is a monument in honor to Eduardo Abaroa, one of the heroes of the war of the Pacific (1879), the statue is made of bronze was made by the sculptor Lujan Sandoval. The monument represents the Topater hero.

Eduardo Abaroa was born the 13 October of 1838. His parents were Juan Abaroa and Benita Hidalgo. He was a businessman who was engaged in the exploitation of mines, He fought with a hundred or so Bolivians face a Chilean army of more than a thousand soldiers a 23 March of 1879 defending the coast. Died shot in the region of Calama.

Each 23 March national authorities, departmental, schools and the people in general pay tribute to the Pacific war and its heroes in the square that bears the name of Don Eduardo Abaroa.
