San Pedro Grotto “Chussek Uta

The Grotto of San Pedro is located in the community of the same name and at a distance of 11 kilometers north of the town of Sorata. Inside the grotto you can see a beautiful lagoon surrounded by quartz and stalactites embedded in imposing stone walls, being the current habitat of bats..
This wonderful place has several legends that explain the existence of tunnels that would respond to three possible exits.: the first in Cusco (Peru), but be at great worship. (Peace)and the third in Lake Titicaca. It is said that these tunnels were made by the Incas during the colonial era to leave their riches and to prevent them from being looted., they flooded them.
The Grotto is also called “Chussek Uta” which means “House of Owls.”, since a variety of owls lived there long ago..
This attractive interior has lighting, a marked and defined trail, as well as guide service and boats to rent and take trips in the lagoon. Outside there is a fast food establishment and a green area with cabins., recreational and barbecue games, Nature tourism can be done here, for scientific purposes, speleological or recreational.
The season to visit the attraction can be carried out during the months of May to August., Likewise, the administrative staff provides the tourist with protective helmets and you can also rent the equipment necessary to enter the grotto, which has an affordable cost..
