San Miguel Museum of Sacred Art – Oruro

The Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art “San Miguel de la Ranchería” is located near the Plaza de la Ranchería., in the Temple of San Miguel whose construction dates back to 1595. It is an adobe construction on a Latin cross plan and with a par and knuckle roof.. It has two mestizo baroque style altarpieces carved in cedar wood decorated with gold leaf and the only Mannerist pulpit preserved in Bolivia.. As a result of the heritage rescue tasks, they have been integrated into this temple, a main arch, a carved coffered ceiling and parapet. In this museum, works of sacred art rescued from various rural churches in the department of Oruro are exhibited, forming an interesting and valuable art gallery in which beautiful mestizo-style paintings stand out.. You can also see a set of beautiful sculptures, liturgical clothing, goldsmith, furniture and prints from the colonial era.
