Snowy Condoriri – Peace
The Snowy Condoriri, name of Aymara origin that means “Condor's Head” has a height of 4.648 m.s.n.m. Its closest approach begins at the “Tuni” dam, from where you walk for more than 3 hours to the “Chiar Khota” lagoon.
Its majesty is incomparable as it has the appearance of a condor with its wings spread about to take flight.. It has an approximate extension of 15 kilometers and his figure imposingly dominates the region. According to the local people, it was the refuge of the condors., the largest and fiercest birds of the Andes. It is said that the gigantic birds carried children from nearby towns in their claws to the high peaks where they fed and educated them to form them as “Condor Men.”, who then intermingled in the population, spreading terror and death.
The first ascent to this colossus dates back to the year 1926, carried out by the mountaineers Germán Stoller and Helmut Fritz. Since then, several expeditions have been made to reach its summit..
The Condoriri is part of the chain of snow-capped peaks. Among the most important are Austria Peak to the west., Little Alpamayo, Illusion and the Snowy Tarija, other important ones such as Wyoming and Aguja Negra; All of them show the rugged beauty of the eternal snow peaks and the icy blizzards that hit their slopes and peaks..
This complex has great potential to develop high mountain sports.. It was declared a national park to protect the natural spaces found in its surroundings, such as the large number of lagoons that supply drinking water to the cities of La Paz and El Alto..
You can access the base camp accompanied by residents, or otherwise you should hire the services of a travel agency that offers specialized tourist packages.
