Plaza Abaroa – Peace

Plaza Abaroa is located in the Sopocachi area between the streets 20 of October, Sanchez Lima, Pedro Salazar and Belisario Salinas.

The plaza was renovated last year 1927 by Prefect Ernest. In the center of the Plaza there is a monument in honor of Eduardo Abaroa, one of the heroes of the Pacific War (1879), The statue is made of bronze and was made by the sculptor Lujan Sandoval.. The monument represents the hero of Topater.

Eduardo Abaroa was born on 13 October 1838. His parents were Juan Abaroa and Benita Hidalgo.. He was a businessman who was dedicated to the exploitation of mines, He fought with a hundred Bolivians against a Chilean army of more than a thousand soldiers a 23 March 1879 defending the coast. He died shot to death in the Calama region.

Each 23 March national authorities, departmental, Schools and the people in general pay tribute to the Pacific War and its heroes in the Plaza that bears the name of Don Eduardo Abaroa.
