Province of Ingavi – Peace
It is one of the most prosperous provinces. Its center is the ancient Tiawanaku. It was created by Supreme Decree of the government of Jose Ballivian on 18 November 1842. It has a territorial extension of 5.410 km2 and a population of 111.579 inhabitants (INE 2008). It limits to the East with the Murillo and Aroma provinces to the West with Lake Titicaca and Peru.. AI North with the province Los Andes and South with the provinces José Manuel Pando and Pacajes. The name of the Ingavi province is a tribute to the Battle of 18 November 1841, held in the town of Viacha, where Bolivian and Peruvian troops clashed. The Bolivians were commanded by José Ballivian and the Peruvians by Agustín Gamarra. Viacha holds the capital of the province. Very close are the “Ingavi fields” that were the center of the military operations where the Peruvians were defeated.. There are also the towns of Guaqui, which in its time was an important port for transporting goods, Taraco, Jesus and Saint Andrew of Machaca. Nasacara. The province has an extensive calendar of festivities. It begins with the celebration of Wilkakuti or Andean New Year, each 21 June. In the port of Guaqui the Tata Santiago festival is held between the days 23 y 25 July. The tarqueada is the richest expression of the place. The Chiripa Culture is part of the province and was in force between the years 1.500 al 100 B.C..
