Charazani Textile Crafts – Peace
The textiles in the Municipality of Charazani constitute one of the best cultural samples of the ancestral heritage of the region. It is an expression of the manual skill of the residents and traces the ethnic and social identity of the Kallawayas, synthesizing their worldview and deep knowledge of their natural environment..
Fabrics, in addition to being products with commercial value, are also cultural symbols., used as a form of communication. The figurative symbology and the variety of designs are integrated with representations of fauna, flora and other characteristic motifs. Women are the bearers of knowledge about procedures, techniques for spinning and treating sheep and llama wool on rustic looms. The garments with the highest commercial value are ponchos, aguayos, sashes, subject, handles, hair ribbons and lIuchus that are also used in social events, religious festivities and rituals.
