Tiwanaku Monumental Archaeological Complex – peace

The Tiwanaku Monumental Archaeological Complex became the ceremonial civic nucleus of this metropolis., It is the most important archaeological center in Bolivia. I occupy 600 hectares approximately.

It is currently divided into two sectors. The first to include the ceremonial civic center of the Pumapunku pyramid, located approximately 1km in a South West direction from the complex. The central site occupies approximately 16 hectares equivalent to 2.4% of the total surface area of ​​Tiwanacu. The architecture of its temples corresponds to the classical era and its greatest splendor.. This period is between the 3rd and 8th centuries.. Due to its Andean cultural wealth, UNESCO declared this complex as Cultural Heritage of Humanity the year 2000. In the colonial era and part of the republic suffered the ravages of time and the looting of the conquerors., who destroyed several infrastructures, monoliths, doors, walls and pyramids, in search of treasures supposedly hidden in them.

Also in the construction of the church and some civil constructions in the town of Tiahuanaco, come from this place.
