Guaqui Church – Peace

The Town of Guaqui has among its most important tourist attractions the Apóstol Santiago Church, located in the northern part of the main square, thus becoming the referent of the people. Guaqui is on the 3.819 m.s.n.m. already 96 kilometers from the City of La Paz. The temple was built between the years 162S and 1784, built entirely of stone, Its architectural style responds to the mestizo baroque. The construction was built on a sacred place for inhabitants of the region. The purpose of the conquerors was to extirpate from the indigenous people what they considered “idolatry and paganism, that is, the natives intended to replace the Catholic faith with their uses and customs.”. Its façade has two towers that serve as bell towers., The main door has a semicircular arch. At its ends you can see Solomonic columns built with stones belonging to the Tiahuanaco culture and decorated with Solomonic characteristics.. Inside the temple there is a splendid decoration that is considered a reference of the Callao School. The presence of the golden color stands out, images like virgins, cherubs, thrones, princes and angels. Among the painters who created these works, the master Leonardo Flores stands out.. Faith in the miracles performed by the Apostle Tata Santiago, It attracts many pilgrims who come from different parts of the country, those who take the opportunity to ask “Tata” for health, family strength and well-being.
