Snowy Illampu – Peace

The Nevado Illampu constitutes one of the most representative massifs of the Cordillera Real; It is pyramidal in shape and has four peaks: Illampu I at a height of 6368 m.s.n.m., Illampu II a 6344 m.s.n.m, IIlampu III Pico Norte a 6060 m.s.n.m. and Pico Schulze to 5943 m.s.n.m. It is located in the town of Sorata, which is characterized by having a cold climate., The landscape is made up of eternal snow peaks on its peaks.. According to the worldview of the indigenous Andean peoples, the Nevado IlIampu, He is one of the greatest gods, Called “On Tixi Wiracocha”., or the “Maker of the waters”, the builder of the world and protector of life, that is, the Andean Olympus.

 

The access roads to this destination have different degrees of difficulty, depending on tourists and climbers depending on their objectives, skills, instruments and resources. The easiest route runs along the southwest side, classified as AD (Itinerary that presents parts with snowy slopes of up to 65°). This route begins at the base camp located on the north side of the massif. Generally used by beginner climbers. Another route is the “German Route” located on the southwest side.. There is an access located on the south face. These last two routes are accessed from the west side of the massif and are more difficult routes.. For the ascent it is necessary to have special equipment taking appropriate precautions. The visiting season runs from May to October.. The most frequent activities in the snowy area are adventure tourism; andinism, rock and snow climbing, trekking, mountain biking and nature tourism; landscape observation and photography.
