Plaza 14 September – Cochabamba

Colonial style, formerly called Plaza de Armas, It owes its current name to the most important date of Cochabamba's independence from the Spanish yoke., It is the main square of the city located in the old town. Within its perimeter is the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Prefecture, the Municipality among other city organizations.

It is embellished by a water fountain called the Fountain of the Three Graces, composed of three female figures joined behind the back and holding hands representing three deities from Greek mythology: Angle: goddess of beauty and splendor, Talia: of theater and festivities; and finally Euphrosyne, representative of joy and happiness.

The so-called Column of Heroes, which was erected in 1851 in homage to the patriots of the Revolution 1810 It is a stone obelisk located in the central part of the plaza, where the names of the first Cochabambinos who gave the cry of Independence are inscribed. Since the 19th century, a bronze condor in flight called The Condor of the Andes has rested on the top of this column..

Recently this plaza has been renovated and remodeled by the Municipal Government which has issued a law that establishes certain restrictions for its use., with the purpose of revitalizing the historic center and making this space a true place of rest, recreation and solace. Preventing it from being used, as previously done, for marches, mobilizations, rallies, political expressions, among others.

Commercial stores and businesses in general are also located within its perimeter.. It is continually the scene of artistic presentations., cultural and all kinds.

The central spaces are used for different commemorative and libertarian events.. It is also a center of spirituality, due to the presence of the two main churches of the city: The Metropolitan Cathedral and the Church of the Company of Jesus.
