Sanctuary of the Virgin of Letanias

The name of the sanctuary comes from the word Litany, which represents a supplication made to God invoking the Holy Trinity. The sanctuary is built of stone, It has two small towers that end in a half-orange dome.
Inside the temple is the Virgin of the Litanies, known for being the smallest in the world, because its size does not exceed 19.5 millimeters. Due to this characteristic, the Municipal Government of Viacha has proposed its inclusion in the Guiness Book of Records.. The miraculous power attributed to the Virgin has transcended the borders of the town and the region., in such a way, that for the last decades has received followers from other Departments. One of the most important legends that is part of the community's tradition and that is present in the collective memory is that of the origin of the image.. It is said that “a shepherd girl who lived in the area, He climbed the Litanías hill, avoiding the vipers that swarmed threateningly around the place.. When the girl felt she was in danger, A bright light momentarily dazzled his eyes but then he saw the image of the Virgin Mary, which was engraved on a small stone.. In that moment – Legend has it - the reptiles fled in terror. When returning home, The little shepherd girl excitedly told her family about the miracle that saved her from death.. To remember this event, the locals built a chapel in honor of the Little Virgin who has been waiting for her faithful ever since.”
