The Fig Tree – Holy Cross
In the small hamlet (30 housing) from La Higuera, a 2.160 meters high, the school where he was detained has been preserved, interrogated and murdered Ernesto Guevara and some of his men. A well-known monument to Che Guevara has been built there., which consists of a large bust on a stone and a cross, next to the school where he died. The bust was placed in 1978 and the military who governed Bolivia during successive dictatorships tried to destroy it on repeated occasions., after which it was rebuilt by anonymous hands again and again.
From La Higuera it is possible to take a short walk to the Quebrada del Churo, where the combat took place in which Che Guevara was wounded and captured.
